Practical walkthrough

Extract pages from a PDF without uploading it

Create separate PDFs for pages 1–3, page 4, and pages 5–8. The practice document contains only numbered demonstration pages.

Open PDF Split & Merge (new tab)

1. Choose a PDF

Download the eight-page practice PDF. Open the tool using the button above. Keep the Split PDF tab selected and choose the practice document with Choose PDF.

Check the detected page count before entering a range. The file stays in the browser during processing.

2. Enter the page groups

In Page groups, enter:

1-3, 4, 5-8

Each comma starts a separate output PDF. A hyphen selects an inclusive page range. Select Create split PDFs.

  • First output: pages 1–3, with 3 pages.
  • Second output: page 4, with 1 page.
  • Third output: pages 5–8, with 4 pages.

To extract only page 4, enter 4 instead. Page numbers refer to the physical position in the PDF, which can differ from the number printed on a page.

3. Download and check the results

Download each result and open it in a PDF viewer. Confirm the first and last page labels and the page count. The source PDF is never overwritten.

Download all starts separate file downloads, not a ZIP. If your browser blocks multiple downloads, use each result's download button.

Combine selected groups into one PDF

To keep pages 1–3 and 5–8 in a single seven-page file, download those two outputs. Select Merge PDFs, add the two files, and use the order controls if needed. Select the Merge PDFs button, then download and check it. Simply entering 1-3, 5-8 in the split tab creates two files.

Errors and limits

For the eight-page sample, 1-9 is out of range. Correct it to a range inside 1–8. Password-protected files are not supported; use an unlocked copy you can legitimately access.

Each PDF must be at most 100 MB. Merging supports up to 20 files and 250 MB combined. This tool does not edit text, run OCR, or compress scanned images. Review forms, links, and signatures in the new copies before sharing.

For offline use, save the standalone HTML from the directory before disconnecting. PDF processing is bundled in that file and needs no CDN.
