Practical walkthrough

Merge PDF files in the order you need, without uploads

Combine a two-page main document and a one-page appendix into one PDF. Use the file-order controls and check the result before sharing it.

Open PDF Split & Merge (new tab)

1. Download two practice PDFs

Save the two-page main document and the one-page appendix. The pages are labelled Main page 1, Main page 2, and Appendix page 1. They contain fictional demonstration content only.

For private documents, the same workflow reads files in the browser and creates a new local copy. No document upload is required.

2. Add the files and set their order

  1. Open PDF Split & Merge above and select the Merge PDFs tab.
  2. Use Choose PDFs to choose both practice documents.
  3. Read the numbered file list. Place merge-main.pdf first and merge-appendix.pdf second with the Up or Down buttons.
  4. Select Merge PDFs, then download the combined file.

All pages from the first file come before all pages from the second file. The controls reorder whole files; they do not reorder individual pages inside a file. The merge button needs at least two valid PDFs.

3. Check the three-page result

Open the new PDF in a viewer. It should contain these pages, in order:

  1. Main page 1
  2. Main page 2
  3. Appendix page 1

To put the appendix first, move merge-appendix.pdf up, merge again, and download the new result. Its order should be Appendix page 1, Main page 1, Main page 2. Changing the list invalidates the old result, so generate a new copy after each change.

Limits and files that will not merge

Use up to 20 PDFs, at most 100 MB per file and 250 MB combined. A file with a PDF extension still needs valid PDF contents. Password-protected files are not supported; select an unlocked copy you can access.

Merging does not compress scanned images, run OCR, or turn images into PDFs. Review forms, links, and signatures in the new copy before sharing it. For selected pages, extract the required page groups first, then merge their outputs.

Use the same tool without an internet connection

Before disconnecting, go to the tool directory and use PDF Split & Merge's Download HTML link. Open the saved HTML in a browser that supports local file selection and downloads. PDF processing is bundled into that file; it needs no CDN and makes no analytics requests. Keep your source PDFs because the tool does not save a workspace between sessions.
